Kylee Hateley joined Gallagher Bassett in May 2016 as GB's National Business Account Manager for General Insurance. This was a new position when Kylee joined and, through her ability to bring people together and connect with all parts of the business, Kylee has evolved GB's GI account management services to be truly innovative and industry leading.

We sat down to talk to Kylee about her experiences working in the insurance industry.

Why do you think it is important to have International Women’s Day?

It is imperative, from a mentoring and learning perspective, that we recognise women in business. We are the minority in some industries, whether it is being on the board or in senior management roles.

Women contribute a lot, they have a different view and often bring a different skillset to the mix. It is important to realise, whether it is men or women, the important work they do. So it is good to have this day to realise that and to hear about women’s journeys.

What advice would you give to women who are considering pursuing a career in the Insurance Industry?

I would recommend to do your research of the company you wish to join, understand the values that underpin their business, partnerships and or stakeholders to see if they align with yours. The other advice I would also give is to trust yourself, speak up, get engaged and try not take things too personally.

What’s it like working at GB?

GB has a wonderful culture and family feel. There is a diverse range of people that work here and the expertise they bring into their individual roles and our business. Life at GB is fun, dynamic and it changes every day. At GB you get the opportunity and support to make change, and we are encouraged to think outside the square. It is a great place to work, I keep good company!

How have you been supported throughout your career?

GB has given me that autonomy to shift and change the foundations of the account management framework. They have given me trust, empowered me to roll out the framework and have embraced this change along the way. Our people are always willing to share knowledge and views.

GB provides training across all aspects of the business and there is always access whether it be subject matter, experts, mentors, online and or external training. This has enabled me to build upon the foundations, enhance and tailor to general insurance requirements and deliver a mutually beneficial program in collaboration with our clients.

What do you enjoy most about working with clients in your role?

I enjoy building rapport with clients. This means we can have a laugh but also have really good in depth discussions about their business direction and how our business can dovetail in to their strategy. It is important to listen, and have that transparency so our clients can trust us.

What is your driving force?

In my role it is the client satisfaction and the public relations that Gallagher Bassett will be the TPA of choice. It is motivating to have a good brand reputation in the marketplace and being proud to say this is who I am and who I work for, and have clients to give that positive feedback and to truly have that experience.
