People-First Approach Crucial to Delivering Superior Outcomes: Emma Hosking’s Reflections on a Decade of Serving the Public Sector
After more than a decade providing unparalleled service to governments across Australia, Gallagher Bassett’s Emma Hosking – Head of Government Partnerships – has shared her insights and learnings from multiple, successful government transitions.
Emma’s career at Gallagher Bassett (GB), a leading provider of claims and risk management solutions, has been driven by an unwavering commitment and dedication to delivering exceptional service in the public sector. Her deep understanding of the unique challenges and intricacies of working with government entities has consistently ensured successful outcomes.
Previously working within government departments has set Emma up for success working on the other side, as a partner. Having this insight has provided Emma with the opportunity to understand and appreciate the unique challenges, risk, priorities, and needs of each of our government clients.
Emma’s most significant achievement has been successfully leading teams to secure and onboard some of the more diverse new business opportunities, including a new centralised workers’ compensation scheme and officer in the Northern Territory. Emma also helped establish GB’s government operations for Comcare, Norfolk Island, and the Tasmanian DPFEM.
At GB Emma heads up a talented team of government specialists, supporting governments of all sizes across Australia. Their approach when working with government clients is a journey of transformation and partnership. The team provides a personalised service to each client, driven by invaluable data and insights, while implementing disciplined application of legislative levers.
The new era for successful governing is increasingly underpinned by adopting a people-first approach. Whether it’s workers’ compensation, general insurance, emergency services support, or health and well-being schemes, tailoring insurances and support programs to meet the unique challenges and needs of each government department is crucial for organisations.
Years ago, GB began building out mental health and psychological injury skillset in preparation for a rise in mental injury claims. This has proven to be a successful strategy, with many government clients harnessing this expertise to support their workforce.
In 2023, Emma was recognised as one of Insurance Business Australia’s Elite Women in insurance. This list honours the exceptional women who have harnessed their skills to shape Australia’s insurance industry and inspire ambitious professionals who wish to walk a similar path.
This award, in combination with successful transitions across Australia and Emma’s team is a testament to GB’s enduring focus on delivering excellence in the public sector.
