2018 Star Interns Complete Program

This year Gallagher Bassett (GB) welcomed 12 interns as part of the six week program designed to equip young people with the necessary skills and experience to achieve success as professionals in the insurance industry.

The Internship program for 2018 has recently concluded, with the interns completing their final presentation.

A highlight of the orientation was a special talk by burns survivor and now motivational speaker, Doug Herrington. Doug has spent his life going ‘through the fire’ both literally and figuratively – surviving burns to 50% of his body, mental illness and drug addiction. He educated the interns on his resilience strategies.

To demonstrate teamwork, interns were challenged to build prosthetic hands for the Helping Hands Program. Our interns undertook this while covering their dominant hand to understand what it feels like to go through life with a loss of limb.

Cathy James, GB’s Learning and Development Specialist, is incredibly proud of the program,

“At GB, we are proud of our Internship Program, and its recognition as one of the top programs in Australia. We are able to provide an insight into the rewarding career opportunities available in the insurance industry, and have had some highly talented and motivated interns come through the program, several of whom have started a career with us after graduation.”

GB’s Internship program was placed second in the Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE) list of top intern programs last year. The aim of the AAGE’s Top Intern Programs list is to recognise organisations that provide the most positive experience for their interns, as determined by interns themselves.

Over the years, interns who have participated in the program have secured casual, part-time and full-time positions within the business.
