GB introduces Strategic Manager – Mental Health role for Victorian operation

Gallagher Bassett (GB) is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Cassar to the role of Strategic Manager - Mental Health for GB Victoria.

Paul joins GB having spent the past eight years at WorkSafe, most recently having managed the Return to Work (RTW) division, overseeing the improvement of RTW and recovery outcomes for injured workers.

In this new role, Paul is responsible for conducting research and developing a best practice claims management model for mental injury claims, including claims involving a secondary psychological condition.

This will involve reviewing and driving the improvement of current practices, for timely, tailored and holistic management of complex claims.

GB’s Mental Health Consultants, Cigdem Demir and Chelsea Konyk, will report to Paul and working together they will identify trends and risks. They will work collaboratively with the business to implement a strategy for continuous improvement, using an evidence based approach.

Paul will work with GB’s clients to establish a best practice approach for both prevention and early intervention.

Paul has extensive experience in workers’ compensation, introducing national injury reporting and governance frameworks to enhance organisational oversight, transparency, and business accountability.

His experience in developing mental health strategies across the Victorian workers’ compensation scheme makes him a great addition to the team.

Stephanie Connolly, Operations Manager- Workers’ Compensation Victoria is very excited to welcome Paul to the team,

"We’re very pleased that Paul is now leading our Mental Health Hub. His expertise in mental health from both a workers’ compensation and clinical perspective allows us to focus on delivering a tailored, person-centred, holistic approach for mental injury.

We are heading in an exciting direction with Paul on board."

Paul is pleased to be part of the GB team,

“I feel incredibly privileged to join the Gallagher Bassett team and have an opportunity to deliver programs that can make a real difference to people’s lives.

I look forward to partnering with stakeholders to design, develop and deliver a range of mental health solutions to support injured workers with their recovery."

Paul is a registered psychologist with a graduate degree in Applied Psychology.
