Following GB’s appointment to provide self insurance claims management on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, GB is pleased to announce the appointment of John Deane who will be leading the Northern Territory self insurance team as Operations Manager - NT.

John will be working closely with GB’s self insurance team, including Ben Sheat - General Manager, Self Insurance, and Emma Hosking - Transition Manager.

John has worked in the workers' compensation industry since 2007 holding injury and people management roles prior to joining GB in 2013.

Whilst at GB, John has worked in multiple start-ups and been key in establishing branch operations in customer service, staff capability, sales and account management and was heavily involved in operational strategy and the implementation of national claim management models.

John is recognised as an expert in integrating new technologies into the delivery of claims services, and will be instrumental in developing the innovative services GB is pioneering in the Territory, such as chat support, mobile case management and an online LaunchPad.

John recently presented on how social media is changing claims handling at the Australian New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) 2017 Claims Convention on Thursday 21st of September, and has been interviewed by Insurance and Risk on how WannaCry ransomware attacks highlight the important role of brokers and insurers in mitigating cyber-attacks.

As of June 2016 John has been managing GB's AUS/ U.S. Partnership Team and has been responsible for the development, training and implementation of a Best Practice program for GB’s U.S. claims operations. 

John has also completed a Master of Business in Personal Injury and a Master of Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy.

John is excited about his new role.

As Operations Manager, John will be based in GB's Darwin office and responsible for the overall operational performance of the Self Insurance business unit. John and his family are looking forward to moving to Darwin and all that the Territory way of life has to offer.

Recruitment is well underway for a range of claims positions to establish offices in Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine to support the delivery of services.

GB will work with the incumbent provider and the Northern Territory Government to ensure a smooth transition of existing and new claims.

John will be presenting at the Northern Territory Insurance Conference on the topic of managing mental injuries in the workplace October 25th to 27th.
