Meet Self-Starter, Stacey Williams - Executive Director of sales, account management and self-insurance

This month, in honour of International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the accomplishments of some of our female leaders.

We sat down with Stacey Williams, GB’s Executive Director of Sales and Account Manager and Executive Director Self Insurance, and found out a little more about her time at GB.

When did you join GB and in what role?

I started my career with GB in 2002 as a Senior Case Manager. We had just been granted our licence to manage workers’ compensation in Victoria and it was great to be part of the start-up. I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in a few of these major start-ups during my time at GB and I love the atmosphere and excitement of everyone rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to get things going.

What has been your journey to get to your current position?

I’ve been fortunate enough to have had experience working across both operational and corporate sides of our business. After working my way up through our Victorian Claims Management team I had the opportunity to move into a Learning and Development role, first in Victoria and eventually with responsibility for improving Service and Capability across GB Nationally.

When GB got appointed to manage claims in South Australia I was involved because of my startup experience, with the role of Scheme Account Manager. I found I had a real passion for that side of our business and, following a successful startup, I was appointed our National Client Relationship Manager and eventually Executive Director of Sales and Account Management at GB.

Balancing corporate and operational has been a big part of my journey and it continues to be a theme for me – while I still hold executive accountability for sales and account management I’ve also recently been appointed Executive Director of our Self Insurance services.

What does your current role involve?

In my role as Executive Director of Sales and Account Management my big focus is on understanding where the market is going, and trying to be at least one step ahead so that the services we offer our clients are always the best on the market. Innovation in the technology space is a big part of that, but I’m also a big believer in the “personal touch” and I try to make sure we’re always evolving and improving in the ways we deliver customer service.

My role as Executive Director of Self Insurance taps into all of this – the self insurance market is evolving rapidly and it’s a great space to be in for someone who loves to drive innovation and change. This is one of our fastest growing products as well, so being in that growth reminds me a bit of my start up experiences. We have a fantastic self insurance team and I’m really excited about what we’re achieving together.

What do you enjoy most about working at GB?

Throughout my career at GB I have been provided with many opportunities to move and grow within the business. There is a great culture here at GB where we are trusted with being creative, taking risks and making decisions.

What do you enjoy most about working with clients?

My passion is working with clients to understand their priorities and ensure our services are continuously evolving to meet their new challenges. As an example, just recently we launched a new injury assistance hotline service called GuideLine, and we’ve already had great feedback from our clients about how, because workers can access GuideLine from anywhere, it helps them meet the very modern workforce challenge of having a greater number of workers being mobile or working from home.

What are you looking forward to doing/being involved in at GB this year, and how will this impact clients?

I’m looking forward to being involved with our expansion across different products. This year we will be continuing to evolve our service offering, developing a range of products and resources to provide to our customers as additional support with injury/ incident management as well as mental health.

What are some of your accomplishments during your time at GB that you are most proud of?

The accomplishment I’m most proud of has been the launch of our new customer service benefits program – myGB. myGB is a suite of client benefits designed to ensure that every GB client gets a service that’s tailored and provides them with great service and maximum value. GB’s always been known for outstanding claims management and with myGB I’ve been thrilled to see us also being recognised for the great service, technology and benefits we offer our clients.

How has GB supported you and your career?

GB’s supported me with a range of educational opportunities, sponsoring me to complete my Masters in Personal Injury Management as well as other courses in sales, finance and management. In addition to a wide range of ‘on the job’ opportunities, experience and training I have also been fortunate enough to have been able to travel a lot, both nationally and internationally, and explore how GB interacts with clients in other locations.

Any humorous or ‘stand out’ memories from your time at GB that you’d like to share?

Because I started with GB 15 years ago I can look around and see some of the same faces that were here when I started. It’s great to see colleagues grow and develop into leaders that are responsible and have input in the direction of the company.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my partner and young son. One of my guilty pleasures is reality T.V. so I also find the time to fit in episodes of Real Housewives.
