Meet Kim Dunne: Driven, Resilient and Committed Claims Operations Manager

Every International Women’s Day, GB recognises and celebrates the accomplishments of the inspiring women we work with. This year we asked our GB fam to nominate an inspiring woman that they work with, and we were overwhelmed with many worthy nominations. After a tough process, nine women were selected to be profiled for 2021, based on their amazing leadership and accomplishments over the past 12 months.

All of the women featured in these interviews will represent GB at the Women in Insurance Leadership Summit.

Meet Kim Dunne, a driven, resilient and committed member of the GB family.

Kim joined GB thirteen years ago and has contributed to the business in multiple roles including Injury Management Advisor, Team Manager and Branch Manager. Kim has provided strong leadership to the Victorian Workers’ Compensation during her time at GB and especially during the pandemic; improving morale and bringing us together with fun initiatives like the remote working scavenger hunt!

Kim was nominated by a colleague for the incredible contribution she has made to GB by supporting and developing our people throughout her career. She continues to demonstrated commitment to staff development through our mentoring program, imparting her leadership skills to others.

Kim demonstrated her resilience and strong character throughout 2020 as she balanced her high- pressure role with caring for her children at home and supporting our people remotely.

We recently sat down with Kim to find out more about her:

What motivates or drives your passion for the insurance/risk management industry?
I’m motivated by the work we do daily, every day is different and unique. I get to interact with all levels of staff, employers and injured workers. Watching our operation assist workers at a vulnerable time in their lives can be very demanding, but it’s genuinely rewarding at the same time.

A job in workers’ compensation can be very challenging at times, but it’s an industry that you fall in love with. This is an industry that has allowed me to start at the bottom and learn each and every role, progressing my knowledge and leadership skills, all the while being flexible and allowing me to have my family while still performing at a high level. I have not had to sacrifice my career or my family.

What do you like most about Gallagher Bassett in five words or less?
Family, Flexible, Variety, People and Passion

Describe how Gallagher Bassett is helping you face your future with confidence
GB has supported me to start and grow my family while supporting me to progress my career into the Claims Operations Manager role. The support that GB provided me with during the 2020 lockdowns in Melbourne and home schooling my young family was a testament to the positive culture that GB is well known for.

Who is your inspiration or role model?
I take inspiration daily from all different walks of life, both within GB and externally too. A while ago I read Emma Isaacs’ book Winging it, and it really resonated with me personally. Emma is a female leader, who manages a business with her 5 children and her approach to leadership is fantastic. I met her in 2019, and she was exactly what I expected!

What does equality mean to you?
Equality to me encompasses many things, and isn’t captured solely by one characteristic. Equality is supporting and encouraging people regardless of their circumstances, differences and characteristics.

What is your commitment to helping forge women’s equality?
My commitment is to celebrate the achievements of all people equally within our diverse and unique workforce.
