James Willis, Team Leader – A&H Travel at Gallagher Bassett (GB), has over 17 years’ experience within the insurance market.

James worked predominantly in the Life and General Insurance markets with specialist claims management and technical expertise across Group Life, Personal Accident & Sickness and Travel portfolios with a focus on various types of claims from Income Protection, Total and Permanent Disablement, Travel, Medical Expenses (non-Medicare), Trauma and Life claims.

Throughout his career, James developed considerable knowledge and expertise through exposure to a range of roles.

Prior to commencing his position at GB, James spent five years as the Claims Manager of the Personal Accident and Sickness team for another Third Party Administrator. According to James, this allowed him to gain valuable experience in the role and allowed him to develop strong working relationships with key clients and market stakeholders.

He also worked for many years at the “coal face” of the Life Insurance sector, managing claims across various platforms within Group, Corporate and the retail sector.

Since leaving his previous role, clients have sought James out to find where he is working now. According to James,

“This is a very rewarding feeling to know that my approach to handling client’s claims is recognised and sought after. This in itself was the highest recognition for me to have received throughout my career knowing the impact that I had made on my client’s book of business with managing their claims.”

James’ team at GB is responsible for handling both Personal Accident & Sickness and Travel claims, for commercial corporates, national federations & associations and individual policy holders. Their clients include Australian domestic carriers in addition to a number of Lloyds Managing Agents and Syndicates.

James is pleased with his team’s performance,

“The team is performing very well, and I am proud to be a part of the team here at GB. With the continued growth in the Personal Accident area, we have managed to work smarter when it comes to claims management,” James said.

“By using key platforms like our Luminos claims management system, online claims lodgement functionality and client portal, we are able to deliver both efficiency and quality to our clients,” he added.

James is responsible for driving the claims team to proactively manage claims, provide outstanding customer service and ensure performance objectives are met. Alongside monitoring the team’s performance, James continually looks for ways to improve the method in which they manage claims to drive excellent claims outcomes for their clients.

“I am looking forward to growing with GB and the array of opportunities that are on the horizon for us. I enjoy the challenge that comes with working with a number of different clients and being able to really achieve some quality results.”

Outside of work, James likes to travel and see different parts of the world. He recently spent three months travelling around Europe which was a surreal experience. James also enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as exploring Queensland.
