Gentle Bear helps housing sa provide comfort to children affected by homelessness
Gentle Bear continues to share his love and care, teaming up with the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) in an effort to provide comfort to children who are affected by homelessness as a result of domestic violence.
Housing SA, which is a part of the DCSI, is running a programme for the Northern Adelaide Region (which covers Modbury, Salisbury, Elizabeth and Gawler Offices) whereby they will be working collaboratively with Anglicare, both Inner and Outer Northern, and also the Domestic Violence agencies in providing comfort packs to as many children who are affected by homelessness as possible.
The packs will be given to children between the ages of 0-16 years old that are or have been affected by homelessness. The packs will be age related and will include a GB Gentle Bear and items such as coloured pencils, colouring books, story books, bottles and dummies.
“We hope to give a little bit of joy and comfort, something for children to hold on to and call their own during this difficult time” - Susie Andricic, DCSI.
DCSI has lead responsibility on behalf of the South Australian government in the areas of disability policy, funding and services; social housing and homelessness; affordable living programs; youth justice; domestic violence; problem gambling; screening services and disaster relief and recovery.
This year we are celebrating Gentle Bear’s 10th birthday after coming into existence through collaboration between GB and the South Australia Police Department, as a way to minimise Post Traumatic Stress-related injuries.
