GB Releases New Posters in the Fight Against Skin Cancer

Gallagher Bassett (GB) recently released skin cancer prevention posters on myGB Poster Designer, an online tool that assists employers to promote health and safety in their workplace using dozens of customisable posters.

The posters, designed by GB’s team of health and safety experts, aims to educate employees who spend time outdoors about the importance of being sun safe. They act as an important reminder for employees to take proactive measures to protect their skin, outlining steps to take when working outdoors and the importance of skin check-ups.

According to the Cancer Council Australia, over 2,000 Australians die from skin cancer every year, costing the country more than $1 billion every year.

Most skin cancers can be prevented by using appropriate sun protection. The posters focus on:

  • The importance of using UV protection when working outdoors;
  • The importance of taking preventative measures, using the slip, slop, slap, seek and slide framework; and,
  • How to spot a potentially dangerous spot and the importance of monitoring skin changes.

Raising awareness of these preventative measures is vital to protect workers from sunburn and UV radiation. According to the Cancer Council Australia, exposure to UV radiation causes 95% of melanomas, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

myGB Poster Designer was designed earlier this year to allow users to create bespoke health and safety campaigns to suit particular industries and individual companies. In a recent interview with ANZIIF Drew Spilsbury, General Manager – Brand, Communications and Growth, said,

“While our internal experts have developed some fantastic content, GB also recognises the amazing passion and expertise of our clients and the broader health and safety industry.”

“That’s why we’re turning the power to decide what gets added to Poster Designer to its users — we really want this to be something to benefit the entire industry.”

myGB Poster Designer is a free online tool which allows employers to run targeted health and safety campaigns in their workplace. Each of the posters mentioned in this article can be viewed here.
