Gallagher Bassett (GB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Tomkins to run the General Insurance operation as General Manager of Specialty Markets.

Peter is well placed to combine his operational and strategic skills to assist in the ongoing development of General Insurance and broadening of our speciality market products.

Over the past 12 months Peter has been working in Sydney as a Business Development Manager for Insurance Carrier strategies in the Sales arena. He has a wealth of experience and has formed long term business relationships within the industry over an excess of 30 years in insurance, having established start-up operations and run his own companies in the Underwriting and Reinsurance sectors. Peter will be able to better support international brokers based on this established relationship.

Peter is excited to take on the new role.

To better reflect the growing diverse nature of the General Insurance operation and new product development, GB has changed the existing division’s title from General Insurance to Specialty Markets.

Specialty Markets reflects the provision of solutions and niche products in addition to mainstream general insurance.

Peter replaces Damien Gilhooley, who is transitioning into the new role of General Manager – Catastrophe Response.

In this new role Damien will be focussed on providing dedicated claims management services to clients in catastrophe situations.

Damien has been responsible for leading GB’s catastrophe claims services in response to many catastrophic events over the past decade, including the 2010 Christchurch Earthquakes, the largest catastrophe claims event in the history of the Southern Hemisphere.
