GB’s Gentle Bear program expands to NSW

GB recently provided 150 of our Gentle Bears to the NSW Police Force, through Em’s Friends – Trauma Teddies group, which provides handmade teddies to children who are affected by crime.

Senior Constable Emma Whitmill, who works as a domestic violence liaison officer at the Redfern local area command (LAC) in Sydney, created the group 18 months ago.

The bears have already been distributed to Rosehill LAC, Chifley LAC, Sydney City LAC and Liverpool LAC.

“Thank you so much to Gallagher Bassett for supplying me with 150 Gentle Bears! These are Bears already utilized by a number of Australian Police Forces - and I'm loving them so much. Although they aren't handmade- I couldn't pass up on getting these guys to give to some kids. They are exactly the reason I started handing toys out - for kids to hug.” Emma said.

Since Gentle Bear’s introduction, more than 3,500 GB Gentle Bears have been handed out in Australia. Other state police services, including SA, Victoria and NT Police, have joined the program and Gentle Bear is also on international assignment with the New Zealand Police.

Jon Winsbury, GB’s Managing Director said “GB is honoured to be able to contribute to an initiative that is so closely aligned with our own Gentle Bear program in an effort to help children, at a vulnerable time in their lives, get back to a normal, secure life.”
