GB's Project Manager Casey Higgins recently rallied the Victoria office to support her friend Kylie, whose family had been involved in a devastating house fire.

In early January, a house fire destroyed Kylie’s family home in Geelong, while she and young sons Connor and Joel were inside.

Kylie was in the shower when she realised there was a fire, grabbing her two boys and making it out onto the street.

Casey wanted to help Kylie and her partner Nick rebuild their lives, organising a office fundraiser and Gentle Bears for the children.

Casey said Kylie’s family were touched, “There were a few happy tears, Kylie and her family were shocked and overwhelmed with everyone’s kindness and generosity, the boys loved the bears.”

GB’s General Manager for Victoria Aidan Brophy said he was touched by the response.

“We’ve distributed thousands of bears through our program but I’m still overwhelmed by the positivity Gentle Gear brings to children in traumatic circumstances.”

Kylie suffered minor burns to her arms and her children were treated in hospital with smoke inhalation. Unfortunately, the family lost their beloved pet and sentimental belongings in the house fire. It is not yet confirmed the cause of the fire, but it has said to be an electrical fault of the house.
