The Australian Financial Review has named Gallagher Bassett one of Australia’s top 100 most sought after internship employers this week.

Published by The Australian Financial Review, the figures were compiled from over 50,000 internship applications lodged in 2015. Other employers recognised included IBM, Deloitte and Telstra.

Gallagher Bassett’s internship program saw eight talented students undertaking work experience across our operations in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.

The quality of applicants interviewed for the internship positions was high. All successful candidates were excited to have the opportunity of experiencing life at GB.

Beginning in January, the interns carried out a 6-week paid development program that provided them with real-world experience and exposure to a variety of roles and processes. They received an insight into the insurance industry and a possible career with GB after graduation.

‘For interns, our program provides students with an opportunity to work with Australia’s leading third-party claims administrator’, Cathy James, Internship Program Coordinator, said.

‘We’re hoping to build a pipeline of future talent, and continue to establish GB as an employer of choice.’

Interns were provided with a mentor, to support their journey outside of the technical support they received within their assigned teams. They were trained in business skills, including networking, effective communication, customer focus, business etiquette, resilience and skills development.

The students also worked on individual projects during their internship, improving efficiencies for various parts of the business, giving them the opportunity to leave a tangible legacy with GB.

Intern projects included projects aimed at improving tracking of medical expenditure, increasing efficiencies following a legislative change and reviewing an IT data solution to improve reporting.
