Gallagher Bassett and Victoria Police talk mental health with treating health professionals in rural Victoria

Gallagher Bassett are working in partnership with Victoria Police to facilitate and coordinate a series of networking forums throughout regional Victoria on ‘Managing Psychological Injuries.’

So far, Gallagher Bassett & Victoria Police have taken their networking forum to Warrnambool, Bendigo, Mornington, Traralgon, Bairnsdale, Wangaratta and Mildura speaking to General Practitioners and treating psychologists.

The forums provide a unique networking opportunity to discuss best practice in managing psychological injuries in an emergency service organisation.

Victoria Police have been sharing with the audience their journey in preventing and managing psychological injuries in their workplace. Guest speakers include Dr Peter Cotton, Clinical and Organisational Psychologist, Dr Foti Blaher, Senior Police Medical Officer, and Senior Police Psychologist, Dr Alexandra West who provide valuable insight and education on their experience from working with mental health in an emergency service organisation.

At each forum there has been representation from Victoria Police local management including the Superintendent.  Each Superintendent presents an overview of their division whilst also highlighting the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) challenges of preventing and managing psychological injuries. Participation and involvement by the local Victoria Police management is critical to the success of these forums.

Education is being provided around psychological injuries including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in addition to guidance on how to access appropriate resources to support safe return to work and information on the role of Gallagher Bassett.

Business Account Manager, Andrea Moffat spoke of the success of the forums,

“The sessions have been a warm introduction to doctors and psychologists on how Victoria Police is managing mental injuries in the workplace.   On average, we’ve had over 40 attendees at each session with plenty of interaction and engagement. The forums have been a platform to share knowledge, network and demonstrate the commitment by all to improve treatment and intervention strategies for psychological claims."
