Comcare Announces GB as Claims Provider for Australian Public Service Delegated Claims Arrangements

Comcare recently announced the appointment of Gallagher Bassett (GB) as one of two third-party claims service providers for non-corporate Commonwealth entities covered under the Federal Government Comcare Scheme.

Comcare’s new service offering will give eligible Federal agencies the option to play a greater role in managing their workers’ compensation claims, including by partnering with a third-party claims administrator.

This new offering continues Comcare’s focus on ensuring the most efficient and effective workers’ compensation scheme for the Australian Public Service.

To give effect to the model in which an agency delegate is supported by a third-party claims management provider, Comcare went to market in late April 2018 to procure service providers to deliver claims management services.

The new claims service options follow trials over the last two years of similar models in the Department of Human Services and the Australian Taxation Office.

John McNamara, GB Australia Chief Executive Officer, was delighted with the announcement,

“GB is honoured to be named a service provider for the Comcare Scheme and looks forward to a close collaboration with Comcare and the Public Sector agencies to continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Scheme,” McNamara said.

GB has had a number of significant Government appointments, including being selected as the claims management provider for the Northern Territory government self-insurance scheme, and icare NSW’s claims management partner for processing Self Insurance general lines claims.

GB has a long history of close partnership with Government entities, having provided services to the Federal Government through the Comcover Scheme for more than a decade, and has also worked with the state Governments of NSW, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
